The Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) is moving forward with enhancing the inspection processes for radioactive waste management facilities to meet the highest safety standards. As part of this effort, the OAP organized the workshop titled “Expert Mission to Review Inspection Process and Procedure (Radioactive Waste Facilities and Its Activities)”, which takes place from January 13–17, 2024, at the OAP headquarters. This workshop is supported by experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The workshop emphasizes the importance of in-depth discussions on improving safety inspection processes for radioactive waste management facilities and related activities. These activities include the assessment of safety inspections at radioactive waste management service facilities at the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization). Additionally, it aims to gather recommendations and conclusions for enhancing the safety inspection of such facilities to ensure compliance with licensing requirements, safety standards, and security protocols.
The initiative also focuses on supervising organizations utilizing nuclear and radiation services to ensure their operations align with legal requirements and adhere to international safety and security standards. This includes compliance with the Nuclear Energy for Peace Act to achieve the highest safety standards for workers, the public, and the environment.
