On November 28, 2024, Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumanakul, MHESI Permanent Secretary, participated in a bilateral meeting with Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Supachai congratulated Dr. Robert Floyd on his reappointment as Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization for a second term. They also discussed the implementation of obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), including the operation of seismic monitoring stations and Noble Gas stations in Thailand.
The discussion included topics related to promoting Thailand’s roles in various areas, particularly Thailand’s development as the NDC Training Center for the ASEAN region. This discussion was a continuation of Dr. Robert Floyd’s visit to Thailand in January 2023, during which he recognized Thailand’s potential to serve as the ASEAN region’s NDC Training Center. This role would enable Thailand to support capacity-building efforts for other ASEAN member states.
Additionally, Dr. Robert Floyd invited Thailand to nominate representatives to participate in the On-Site Inspection (OSI) Integrated Field Exercise (IFE) in Sri Lanka. This international-level exercise aims to bring together participants from various relevant fields to test the effectiveness of on-site inspection processes, including technical methods, tools, procedures, and systems. The upcoming training will be the third iteration of an Integrated Field Exercise (IFE).
