OAP enhances knowledge and prepares for licensing nuclear facility in Thailand.

OAP staff attended a study visit on “Inspection of Nuclear Fuel Production and Packaging Processes, and Key Components of Research Nuclear Reactors” from November 13 to 15, 2024, in the People’s Republic of China. They visited organizations including the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) and the China Institute for Radiation Protection (CIRP), focusing on learning about nuclear fuel production and packaging processes. This study visit aims to enhance inspection and safety assessment skills, elevating Thailand’s nuclear safety regulatory system to meet international standards.

Ms. Ampika Apichaibukol, OAP Deputy Secretary General, stated that the project to establish a Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) Research and Treatment Center at Suranaree University of Technology is currently in the process of obtaining a nuclear facility construction permit. As the regulatory authority, the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) must be well-prepared in both inspection and permitting processes to ensure the highest safety standards, safeguarding workers, the public, and the environment.
