OAP is hosting the 15th APSN Annual Meeting

              OAP, in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Safeguards Network (APSN) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is organizing the 15th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Safeguards Network (APSN) from November 5 to 6, 2024, at the Centara Ao Nang Beach Resort & Spa in Krabi Province. This meeting aims to strengthen sustainable cooperation in nuclear and radiation safety within the Asia-Pacific region. The event will be inaugurated by Mr. Suwit Suriyawong, Deputy Governor of Krabi Province.

Ms. Pennapa Kanchana, OAP Deputy Secretary General and Chairperson of the APSN, states that this meeting serves as an excellent platform for representatives from 16 countries to present their work and share experiences in nuclear safeguards. The event encourages discussions, suggestions, and collaborative efforts for developing a strong international network in nuclear and radiation safety. The aim is to enhance regional cooperation and promote the effective use of nuclear technology in the Asia Pacific region. Through this strengthened partnership, the OAP is hopeful for the sustainable development of the regional nuclear safety network, as well as for advancing measures to leverage nuclear technology safely and to foster progress across the region.

Additionally, the meeting was honored by the presence of Mr. Kenji Murakami, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Chair of the APSN Steering Committee; Mr. Massimo Aparo, Deputy Director General of the IAEA and Director of the Department of Nuclear Safety; and Mr. Naobumi Yokota, Director of Non-Proliferation, Science, and Nuclear Energy at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They jointly delivered opening remarks to mark the 15th anniversary of the APSN Annual Meeting. Representatives from 16 member countries in the region—including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Laos, Palau, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Thailand—attended the event, with a total of 48 participants.
