Ms. Ampika Apichaibukol, OAP Deputy Secretary General, along with the steering committee for the project on developing regulatory systems for the application of nuclear technology for clean energy, held discussions with Mr. Chen Minfeng, Deputy General Representative of CNNC Asia Office and General Manager of ASEAN Regional Development Headquarters of CNOS, and Mr. Chen Fangjun, Representative for Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia, ASEAN Regional Development Headquarters of CNOS, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
The meeting aimed to exchange visions and follow up on the progress of cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Thailand, particularly in the study and consideration of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. Key areas of focus included technical study visits, participation in conferences, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences. This is seen as an important step in preparing the regulatory framework for the application of nuclear technology for clean energy in Thailand.
Additionally, plans were discussed for the development of international cooperation, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or agreements to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the People’s Republic of China in 2025. CNOS also informed the attendees about plans to establish the China-ASEAN Nuclear Training Center. Further discussions between OAP and CNOS on this topic are expected to take place in the future.
