On August 27, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Pasit Lorterapong, OAP Secretary General and delegates from OAP held discussions with Dr. Fan Li, Vice President of the Beijing Institute of Nuclear Engineering, and his team regarding the design and construction of the HPR1000 nuclear power plant. The talks focused on safety regulation processes, which are the primary responsibility of the OAP, and other related measures such as site surveys, legal frameworks, engineering safety mechanisms, disaster preparedness, and environmental planning for the surrounding areas. The discussions also emphasized the importance of public awareness before the construction of a nuclear power plant.
The HPR1000 nuclear power plant is a prototype technology for China’s nuclear power plants, designed by China Nuclear Power Engineering (CNPE), and adheres to international safety standards.
This study visit was supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under its technical cooperation program for small modular nuclear reactors.
