On August 5, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Pasit Lorterapong, OAP Secretary General, presided over the opening ceremony of the “Security in the Transport of Radioactive Material for Operators (RAM-200)” training, organized by OAP in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), under the support of the United States Department of Energy (U.S. DOE). The event, which focuses on the exchange of technical information and cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, is being held from August 5 to 9, 2024, at the Athenee Hotel in Bangkok. The training features international experts with knowledge and experience from ORNL as guest speakers. Attendees include about 40 representatives from government and private sector organizations that utilize radioactive materials and nuclear energy.
The objective of this training is to provide knowledge on the principles of security operations in the transportation of radioactive and nuclear materials according to international best practices. It also aims to impart guidelines for developing security plans for the transportation of radioactive materials and designing effective transportation security systems to prevent theft and sabotage. Additionally, the training offers an opportunity for participants to discuss the development of operations and the expansion of future collaborations.
